Life in terms of Sound:
An artistic and interactive piece that portrays the harmonic series through a wall of 11 strings. This wall represents the metaphor of growing up in life. As we grow up, life sounds consonant and easy as the first harmonics in the harmonic series. As we get old, life gets more complex in every sense, our thoughts, relationships, goals and so on, as the subsequent harmonics in the series. These strings are tuned with each harmonic of the harmonic series that will sound according to the presence of a person in front of each string. As people walk horizontally in front of the piece, the strings are triggered matching the motion in a harp-like way. Letting the audience hear the growing tonal complexity of life. The users would also interact with the piece by standing in front of a string and making it vibrate. More people could join and vibrate other strings creating new chords and harmonies.
Referencing this as the harmonic series and the fixed notes I would like to play in sequential order when a person walks by in front of the wall.
Technically speaking
Uses ML5 faceMesh model and serial communication with an Arduino Uno to trigger 11 independent DC motors that play each of the 11 strings attached to a wood accordion wall. Each string is meticulously tuned to the first 11 harmonics of the harmonics series and are configured in a Arp like form across the accordion wall horizontally.
Needs for the project
Power and Lightning
Close and in front of a wall. We need space. The board is up to 4ft x 8ft. We need a mixing board, 11 channels and two speakers to output everything. 2 Webcams. 11 1/4 to xlr cables and power cables for the speakers.
