For me is the communication establishment between a form of media or technology with a human. Us humans feed and get fed by this form of media or technology, creating an enriching experience. Although there is polemic regarding the distinct forms of interactivity, some of them being even “one sided”, I believe that this communication has to be mutual in order to be interactivity. I feel that engaging with any technology or media that does not allow you to feed it back, changes the experience entirely.
I think that it adds to art making and storytelling. Although I have been always a fan for conventional storytelling, I believe that the fact of engaging the people, allowing them to act and think in some way enhances their experience, lets the message to get through even better. I would even think that conventional media has had a tendency of becoming more and more passive. I understand that there’s a large audience for very passive media content, but I believe that this has also resulted in lazy audiences that are not caring as much for quality in terms of storytelling sometimes.
Cornell Box. Get inspired by his work. Check the slides from the class. Idk where to look for them now that I think about it. Try or ask.
Should I book office hours with him? I want to know more about his career.
Film vs Installation: one is linear and unchanging. The other is an interactive installation. That’s is Hypercinema!
Pick one idea or story to tell and what is the tool to tell it. You can just animate something or make it interactive! Is it gonna be projected? on a screen? think about the installation. Really hard to keep it running. Test the lasting ability of your art. How to make it even turn on and off of its own.
Check Neil Mendoza’s work. Weirdness and digital and physical realms. Phys Comp with Hypercinema. Interacting with something digital through something physical.
